Training: Winter 2007

By Paul Hesse (February 2007)

We have begun again a new private pilot ground school on Tuesday nights. We have 11 people enrolled and it is going smoothly. Last year, Wayne Webster and myself taught four sessions of ground school and had not one person fail the written. Yay for the instructors/student work ethic. We still need to get better Wx. briefs. People are still coming out ill prepared for flights in the area without knowing what is going on within a 250 mile radius of their departure point. No excuses for that negligence!! Winds aloft, area forecast (FA) and terminal forecasts (TAF) must be compared to real time weather. That is get an ATIS, AWOS / ASOS, METAR and look out the window please and make good decisions based on knowledge and common sense!
